Kansas Insurance Department Opens Web Portal Using Seagull Software’s LegaSuite®LegaSuite Enables Seamless Integration to Host Applications for Web Self-Service, Yielding Productivity and Efficiency GainsAtlanta, GA, – 18 October 2005Seagull Software (AEX: SEAGULL), a leading provider of software products for connecting legacy applications to service-oriented architectures (SOA), announced today that the Kansas Insurance Department has opened a new Web portal that relies on Seagull Software's LegaSuite to provide integration to internal systems that run core business processes. The Kansas Insurance Department is responsible for protecting consumers, licensing agents and helping maintain the financial stability of the insurance industry statewide. The department regulates and reviews operations of more than 1,500 insurance companies that do business in the state, and licenses more than 75,000 insurance agents and agencies. The Kansas Insurance Department identified certain manual, paper-intensive processes that were ideal candidates for business process improvement. To automate and streamline these processes the department is leveraging LegaSuite to safely and rapidly integrate several core legacy applications with a Web-based front end written in J2EE. “We needed to offer our stakeholders the flexibility and convenience of the Web, but we didn't want to endure the time and cost associated with rewriting the existing business logic. LegaSuite saved us considerable time and money because we were able to develop quickly while maintaining the integrity of our existing systems,” said Neil Woerman, Director of Information Technology for the Kansas Insurance Department. Insurance companies can now securely file and pay their taxes via a new online tax payment portal. The new portal eliminates most paper tax forms, speeding the submission process and reducing inaccuracies. Additionally, companies can update contact information, monitor agent license status and access and download important documents efficiently online. Consumers also have the ability to search for agents or companies that are authorized to sell insurance in the state and to submit complaints via the department's Web site. The new Web capabilities have yielded a boost in productivity stemming from a minimized reliance on paper-based processes and incoming phone calls. Internal employees have also benefited from the LegaSuite-enhanced application. Less familiar green-screens have been non-invasively replaced with an intuitive, graphical user interface, resulting in simplified navigation, better integration with other applications and a reduction in training requirements.
