Seagull Software Unveils LegaSuite® BPM at JavaOne 2005 Conference

Enterprise Class Solution Accelerates Delivery of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA)

San Francisco, JavaOne 2005 Conference – 27 June 2005

Seagull Software (AEX: SEAGULL), a leading provider of software solutions for transforming mainframe applications into Web services and for business process management (BPM), today announced LegaSuite BPM, a complete solution for orchestrating manual activities, business functions and Web services to deliver end-to-end business processes in the SOA-enabled enterprise. Seagull Software will be demonstrating LegaSuite BPM, a module of the LegaSuite software platform for SOA-enabling legacy systems, at the 2005 JavaOne Conference, June 27 - 29 in San Francisco in booth 421.

LegaSuite BPM is 100% pure Java and is designed to fully leverage existing infrastructures. Built on Java standards, LegaSuite BPM is compatible with all major operating systems, databases and J2EE application servers. LegaSuite BPM seamlessly integrates with existing database, directory, and security services; incorporating J2EE applications, mainframe systems and SOA-enabled business services into flexible, fully-managed and monitored business processes. LegaSuite BPM is designed to be used by enterprises that need BPM capabilities for their service-oriented architecture, and by software vendors who want to embed BPM and orchestration components into their software applications.

"Java developers need a way to incorporate existing business application assets into their process-based solutions," said Charles Ames, vice president BPM division for Seagull Software. "LegaSuite BPM offers the ability to string together and recombine activities of any kind, including human tasks, automated Web services or mainframe business functions in a highly scalable and reliable Java-based package."

LegaSuite BPM Modules

LegaSuite BPM Studio: A visual, drag-and-drop design environment to create, reuse and deploy process definitions involving human, automated and Web services-based activities. Workflows are deployed with a single click.

LegaSuite BPM Engine: A high-performance, Java-based business process engine for executing the flow of automated and manual activities across applications and workflows. LegaSuite BPM Engine leverages an enterprise's existing directory, authentication, database and messaging infrastructure and can also integrate seamlessly with back-end applications for end-to-end process automation.

LegaSuite BPM Application Framework: A comprehensive set of APIs that expose LegaSuite BPM Engine's complete functionality in standard formats accessible via Java, Web services and/or XML over HTTP.

LegaSuite BPM Manager: A browser-based interface for accessing activities, real-time monitoring, audit logging, managing process definitions and producing graphical reports. LegaSuite BPM Manager can be used stand-alone or as part of a JSP/Servlet framework for rapid development of sophisticated Web-based user interfaces to workflow applications or for integrating with existing Web-based systems.

LegaSuite BPM is part of Seagull Software's LegaSuite high-performance platform for transforming legacy applications into service-oriented architecture assets that are easily reused by Java programmers because they expose industry standard interfaces. Enterprises use LegaSuite to expose legacy business functions that run on mainframe systems (as well as other legacy platforms such as UNIX/VT, ICL, iSeries and Windows client/server) as Web services, and then remodel those services in combination with human activities as part of an agile SOA. LegaSuite also includes Web enablement and integration solutions.

"In today's real-time enterprise, businesses need to bring together the users, applications and customer interactions to create streamlined business processes," said Wico van Helden, Seagull Software CTO. "Properly combined, these elements become more than the sum of the parts. SOA is one step on the road to bringing simplicity to a complex world. Adding BPM takes it one step further by helping organizations fully exploit opportunities to offer more-compelling value to customers and adapt more quickly for competitive advantage."

LegaSuite BPM is available for purchase immediately and can be licensed stand-alone or in combination with other LegaSuite modules.
